Family Bartering
Here's what we found in the hallway this evening after their showers--Anna (who does NOT like to brush her own hair) evidently struck a deal with John Caden that if he'd brush her hair, she'd read him his favorite book.

Father's Day 2012
So thankful for my husband who is such a wonderful father to our children and for my dad who is a very special "Poppa" to us all.
Here's a picture from Father's Day 2008. John Caden has been keeping Poppa very busy ever since. Whenever we need something done around our house, John Caden is always the first to confidently say, "Poppa will do it for us." Over the years, "doing" has entailed building, digging, sawing, installing, gluing, making, spreading, driving, etc.
I love having pieces of Poppa's handiwork all around us. He's built us a raised bed vegetable garden,
stakes for our vegetable signs,
a bluebird house,
a picture frame, a playroom toy shelf, a bathroom stool, and so much more.
Praying that this little fellow will grow up to be a godly father himself one day!

Caught on Camera
We've known for some time now that Hudson has an affinity with our blueberry bushes (as seen here with his head up to his shoulders in a bush)...

but what we didn't know until this week is that he has a partner in crime (as seen here with this shot taken with a long range lens from our bathroom window).
And as seen here...
and here...
and here.
Yes, we definitely have an enabler on our hands. I now realize that when I've been letting Hudson out to go potty, John Caden has been sneaking out with him to "feed" Hudson's addiction. He finds one blueberry for himself, then one for Hudson, one for himself, one for Hudson---making sure to wipe each berry on his shorts before he or Hudson consumes it. :)
Here is the "I've just eaten blueberries, licking my chops" guilty look that Hudson presents himself with after the deed has been done.
And lastly, the "How could you be mad at this sweet face--I'll even sit and smile prettily right beside your hydrangea" pose.
So the mystery of why Tim and I haven't been able to find any ripe blueberries on our bushes this year has been solved. Thankfully, Granna and Poppa are keeping us well supplied!

Anna's 1st Piano Recital
I can't decide which was my most favorite part of the recital...
Looking at her sweet smile,
Admiring her curved hands,
Noticing her cute little dangling feet,
Seeing her precious curtsies,
Watching John Caden write this sweet note to her,
Or actually listening to her play her pieces. Here she is playing "Little Playmates" by F.X. Chwatal.
