Cornerstone Happenings

Such a fun Cornerstone week...

Anna had the opportunity to cheer with the high school girls at a varsity basketball game...

and Granna and Poppa attended school with Anna for Grandparent's Day. 

Meeting the Author of Seaman

Seaman: The Dog Who Explored the West with Lewis & Clark is one of our all-time favorite homeschool reads.

Today, thanks to the mom of one of our favorite homeschool families, we were able to meet the author and spend time asking her questions.

 Anna and John Caden also gifted her with a "book" of their own that they had written.

Lending a Helping Paw

Poor Hudson--the kids sent me this picture while I was at work this week. Looks like they bribed him  (I'm sure with something edible) into doing some of their school work for them while I was away.

Cornerstone Electives

We've added electives at Cornerstone to our homeschool repertoire this year--and we're loving it so far! 

Back to School

Pausing School

Fall was in the air this morning--59 degrees! It was our first open window morning of the new school year. Hudson was mesmerized by the cool breeze coming in.

 

 

John Caden begged for us to "pause school" and go outside and play. His and Hudson's sweet puppy dog eyes were obviously too much for me to resist, so we "paused" school and went out and enjoyed the cool morning.

 

Teaching Assistant

All teachers could use an extra set of hands.  This year I've decided to utilize the extra four that hang out in our schoolroom with us every day. That's right--no more lying around, snoozing all morning for this little fellow while I'm working my  tail off--

I'm putting his four little paws to work!

His paws are perfect for holding up vocabulary cards...

And when the kids bring things to school that they shouldn't (i.e. hats, balls, etc.), he can be the bad guy who has to confiscate them and hold them until school is over.

He makes a great study partner...

And he's a very good listener when stories need to be read aloud...

And when the wiggles set in and a child gets off task, he certainly can help me out by holding them in place until their work is done.

When Mom's at Work

 

Evidently these little friends joined Anna and John Caden at school today. They must have been well behaved and quiet, hard workers because Daddy, who was working from home, didn't even realize that these extra students had snuck in.

Ocean Boxes

Whales, seals, sea turtles, sea snakes, fish, sharks, rays, crustaceans, mollusks, cephalopods, echinoderms, cindarians, and sponges...what a fun year studying ocean zoology it has been and what a great job the kids did in making a clay representation of each of these aquatic families as we studied Exploring Creation: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day.

 

Aquarium Fieldtrip
