Friends

We love spending time with Miss Alicia and Mr. Tony...
We can always count on Mr. Tony to give us some good laughs be it hula hooping, attempting press to handstands or being silly for pictures!

Parenting with an Intentional Heart

"Intentional parenting is really not about spending every single second with your children. It's not providing them something to do and having days so structured that they move from event to event to event. In some ways, parenting with an intentional heart is this understanding that you are slowly letting them go...It's brave to just keep going even when you're tired, weary, and honestly just a bit tired of pouring cereal and milk.

Pouring cereal and milk? Don't overlook that. That's the fabric of motherhood. You start pouring it for them, then you teach them, then they do it on their own, and then you don't worry about them getting it because you've taught them how. A simple analogy, but the truth."

Sibling Love

After Tim reads John Caden's "read aloud" school stories to him at night, John Caden's gotten into the habit of coming into Anna's room and listening to me finish reading Anna's stories to her--many of which are long historical fiction or biographical chapter books.  I've come to love how eagerly he comes running in, earnestly hoping that he hasn't missed too much of these books--books that should be far above his comprehension level.  He's currently particularly enjoying Gladys Aylward--a biographical book in the Christian Heroes: Then & Now series.  Tonight, after we had finished reading "Gladys" and while Anna was completing her reading, he fell asleep.  Anna begged me to leave him. After I turned out the light, I watched through the cracked door as she slowly edged her way closer and closer to him. Within a few minutes she was fast asleep snuggled up as close as she could possibly get.
