I'm not sure what made us think that we should serve his cake to him on a plate...
because as soon as his presents were presented to him and he took his first sniff...

--me desperately trying to retrieve a portion of the cake from his mouth so that he wouldn't swallow the whole thing in one big gulp. We didn't even make it through the first line of "Happy Birthday" before he snatched it off the plate. :(
After licking the hardwoods until they were sparkling clean, (another reason for the the plate being such a ridiculous idea--did we really think he would leave my floors messy with crumbs??), Anna was finally able to entice him to take notice of what was in the bag...an antler. He's been walking around with it dangling out of his mouth all evening. (He looks like he's smoking a cigar). :)
Happy Birthday Hudson! We hope that you add many more years of joy to our family!
